Solid Flue Extract Systems Installation in Glasgow
Sigma EPD design and install solid flue extract systems that remove exhaust gases from an appliance burning solid fuels (like wood or charcoal) and safely vents them outside. It's crucial for safety, ensuring dangerous gases don't build up indoors, and for the efficient operation of the solid fuel appliances.
SOLID FUEL COOKING
Sigma Engineering Product Design Ltd recently completed a project to manufacture a double-skinned flue for solid fuel cooking.
Both wood-fired and charcoal-fired equipment are classed as Solid Fuel Appliances (SFA). However distinct design considerations are necessary when dealing with one as opposed to the other. Considering these differences is crucial to delivering a safe and effective system.

In addition, SFA systems are now considered as Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV). This means that they are to be used, maintained and monitored under LEV guide HSG 258 in addition to its designation as a kitchen ventilation system under DW/172, TR/19 and DW/144

THE SOLID FUEL EXTRACT INCLUDES:
CO monitor and alarm with automatic ramping in case of spillage
Electronically Commutated (EC) fan (high efficiency fan)
A specially designed jet pump to draw combusted gas and solids away from the ovens. This allows the fan to be placed outside of the air stream which can reach temperatures of 450 degrees Celsius
Flue manufactured from 0.9mm SS ducting, cladded with 0.9mm outer galvanised skin with insulation between them
Access doors positioned to allow for very regular cleaning, all doors fabricated by welding and bolted. Appropriate high temperature seals used on doors

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a solid flue extract system, and why is it important?
A solid flue extract system is designed to safely remove smoke, gases, and other by-products of burning solid fuels from your property. Proper extraction helps maintain air quality, reduces fire risks, and ensures compliance with health and safety standards.

How long does a solid flue extract systems installation in Glasgow take?
Installation times vary depending on the size and complexity of your property. Typically, a standard system can be installed within a few days, including setup, testing, and integration with other ventilation systems such as kitchen ventilation.

Are these solid fuel flue extraction systems energy-efficient?
Yes. We use Electronically Commutated (EC) fans and insulated flue systems, which optimise airflow while reducing energy consumption. Our systems are designed to be both effective and energy-conscious.

Do these systems meet safety and compliance standards?
Absolutely. Our installations comply with all current regulations, including LEV flue extract and CO monitored flue extract requirements. We prioritise safety and ensure each system is fully certified and tested before completion.

Can these systems be customised for different properties?
Yes. Every solid flue extract system installation is bespoke. Our team assesses your property’s layout and operational needs to provide a tailored solution that maximises performance and reliability.

Can a flue extraction system work alongside other ventilation systems?
Yes. Our solid fuel flue extraction systems can integrate seamlessly with other ventilation setups, including kitchen ventilation, ensuring consistent airflow and maintaining optimal air quality throughout your property for improved comfort and system efficiency.

How often should I have my flue extraction system maintained?
Regular maintenance is key to keeping your system efficient and safe. We recommend annual inspections, but the frequency may vary based on usage, fuel type, property requirements, and overall operating conditions to ensure long-term reliability.
